OUR HISTORY

The Wholesome Mind Summit (TWMS) is VINT & Aletheia Attorneys and Consultants’ cherished corporate social responsibility ( CSR) initiative, founded by the Managing Attorney with a deep passion for mental health advocacy. Inspired by a profound encounter with a client and recognizing the importance of mental well-being in both personal and professional spheres, the firm took the initiative to create a platform for open dialogue, education, and support.

What began as a response to a client’s journey with mental health challenges has evolved into an annual event dedicated to awareness, advocacy, and actionable solutions. Through expert-led discussions, interactive sessions, and community engagement, the summit fosters a culture of mental wellbeing.

During the maiden edition of TWMS, the Managing Attorney and the visionary behind the summit, Lady-Ann Essuman (Mrs.), emphasized the importance of prioritizing mental and occupational safety policies in workplaces. She pointed out that neglecting workplace well-being can lead to mental health issues that negatively affect teamwork and productivity.

The Motivation

Mental health is a crucial aspect of the overall well-being of a person, yet it is often overlooked or stigmatized. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines mental health as a state of well-being that enables individuals to cope with life’s stresses, realize their abilities, learn and work well, and contribute to their community. The WHO’s 2022 report emphasizes that mental health is a basic human right and essential for personal, community, and socio-economic development.

An estimated 2.3 million people in Ghana have mental health conditions and need care.

Despite the public health attention raised in recent years, the stigma and misunderstanding of mental health issues continue to negatively impact individuals and their families, affecting their home lives, workplace productivity, and community involvement. To address these challenges, all WHO Member States, including Ghana, are committed to implementing the “Comprehensive Mental Health Action Plan 2013-2030.” This plan aims to improve mental health through strengthened leadership and governance, comprehensive and responsive community-based care, promotion and prevention strategies, and enhanced information systems, evidence, and research.

There are only 39 psychiatrists (0.13 per 100 000 people) for the entire population of Ghana.

Mental health is a journey, constantly evolving through different stages of life. From childhood to adulthood, various challenges and experiences shape our well-being. Early support, positive environment, and healthy coping strategies can build resilience, while neglect, stress, and isolation can undermine mental health.

By recognizing the importance of mental well-being at every stage (i.e. childhood, adolescence, adulthood, and late adulthood), we can take proactive steps to nurture it. Investing early in our mental well-being promotes a more fulfilling lifestyle and prevents long-term struggles.

Let’s prioritize mental well-being to create and cultivate a psychologically safe and supportive community to empower individuals to thrive at every stage.
